For generations, radio has played a significant role in our lives.

For generations, radio has played a significant role in our lives. While the advancements of modern-day technology have altered our consumption habits, it is still important to understand the essential role radio plays in our society while also considering how radio has evolved to meet the ever-evolving media needs and habits.
The early days of radio
Before modern technology, the radio was one of the most important ways to receive information. The radio introduced society to immediate information. The practice of radio transmissions began in the early 1900s, yet at this time, it was considered a hobby and was not generally available or known to the broad public. It was not until the late 1920s that more and more individuals were utilising the radio, and its popularity began to soar.
In the decades ahead, the radio became a common medium to stay up to date with news, listen to music, and keep yourself entertained with various programs and channels. Having a radio was an essential piece of a household, and the radio became a fundamental tool for advancing information transmission for society.
Radio in the streaming era
Fast forward to the 21st century, and radio's role and position in our everyday lives are different. Modern technology has revolutionised the way we consume media and information. With that, it is essential to stay relevant amongst the crashing waves of streaming that have undoubtedly levelled the playing field. How can that work? There is a way, and it has proven to be successful. As the famous saying goes, "if you can't beat them, join them".
The fusion of streaming and radio has proven to be an effective way for radio to stay relevant and remain an essential player within the media consumption playing field. By launching apps, live-streaming shows, and content and digitalising the radio experience, the radio industry opens itself to an audience willing to devote time to consuming and interacting with content coming directly from radio stations.
How radio stations stay relevant
One of the most popular ways in which radio stations stream their content is through live-streaming live radio shows and programs. This practice has become increasingly familiar in practice and is used by most radio stations across the globe. It is a simple yet effective way to allow audiences to increase their engagement with the content being presented and being able to visualise scenarios and segments.
While this and other practices and strategies that radio stations have introduced to increase their relevance are effective, society still demands ways to attract themselves to radio. The answer to that need is to emphasise the importance of radio stations and channels existing on apps and platforms.
The TV2Z and Qmusic partnership
Radio has opened itself to a new way of presenting its content throughout this century, through the art of streaming and by entering the app environment. TV2Z is proud and excited to be able to explore this unique environment and work on ways to revolutionise radio through partnering with clients such as DPG Media. A transformative media company where we have and continue to work with Qmusic, a radio station owned by DPG Media based here in the Netherlands.
Qmusic is one of the most popular radio stations in the Netherlands and has been broadcasting since 2005. Qmusic has been ahead of the game in understanding the ways in which radio needs to thrive in a world that is filled with endless amounts of ways to consume information and entertainment. We were thrilled to work with Qmusic in the past, and we are excited to announce that we will be building additional applications for Qmusic in the future.
As a testament to the notion that Qmusic is always one step ahead with keeping radio alive and well, we will be building two Smart TV applications for Qmusic, comprising a Samsung Tizen and LG Web OS application. This strategic move grants Qmusic the ability to appear on more channels, increasing its visibility on more platforms. Proving that radio has moved far beyond just a clunky box one would have in their house. Radio has become a unique tool for communicating news, entertainment, and music. More than what it was before.
The future of radio
We look forward to continuing to find ways to transform radio alongside Qmusic. With the power of streaming and app building, radio has, and always will, have a place in our society. We have said it before, and we will say it again. The digital revolution has proven to us that there are limitless possibilities for streaming and entertainment. The possibilities are endless, and we look forward to exploring them in any way, shape or form. So if you or your company are looking for ways to build state-of-the-art applications and platforms, do not hesitate to contact TV2Z.
